Create a Test Instance

Just as the LMS system requires the creation of both a Learning Object (Course) and a course instance (where users enroll in a specific course instance), similarly it requires the creation of both a test library (test) and a test instance. The test instance will be selectable when associating a test to a learning object / course.

After creating a new Test Library, the Available Test Instance section displays at the bottom of the screen with the New Instance button, or you can access a Test Library from the Test List (Advanced View>Learning Objects>Test Libraries).

Add a Test Instance

  1. Click the New Test Instance button, which opens the Test Instance Details screen.

    1. Instance Name - This is the required name for the test instance. This name will be displayed when the user adds the test instance to a course.
TIP: The Test Instance Name is usually the same as the Test Library (Test) Name.
    2. Randomize - An option to have the test questions shuffled every time the user takes the test, if checked.
    3. Passing Score - This is the score required to pass the test (e.g. 80 or 100).
NOTE: This can be overridden by entering a different passing score at the course or learning object level.
    4. Use All Questions - This option lets the test use all questions for the test.
NOTE - The user can submit the test for scoring if not all the questions are answered, even if the Use All Questions is checked.
    5. Make Public - Currently this is not in use. It can be left blank.
    6. Enforce Retake Logic - This option allows the user to retake the test.
      1.  If left blank - it will allow for unlimited test retakes
      2. If checked - you must enter the number of Attempts allowed and
      3. Enter the Days Before Retake, which is now required also.
    7. Max Questions - the number of questions to show on the test.
    8. Attempts - If the Enforce Retake Logic is checked, this is the number of retakes attempts the user is allowed.
    9. Days before Retake - This is related to the Enforce Retake Logic. It is the number of days a user has to wait to retake the test.
      1. Enter 1 will require 24 hours before retake is allowed.
      2. Enter 0 will have no time restriction to retake the test.
    10. Review on Completion - if selected will allow the user to review the test questions and answers after passing the test.
    11. Permit Review - If selected, will display the incorrect answer in red and the correct answer selected for each question when the user retakes the test.
    12. Show One Question Per Page - If checked, only one question is displayed per page.
    13. Show Feedback - This is a feature where hints can be setup to help the user answer the question. It shows the feedback for each question in blue in the test, if the comments section for each question is filled out.
    14. Time Allowed (Minutes) - Is currently not available for use. You can leave blank.
  2. Either check the Use All Questions checkbox or enter a numeric value in Max Questions field.
  3. Enter optional attributes to complete the setup.
  4. Click Save, when finished.
  5. This will return you to the specific Test Library Instance List with the new instance now added to the Instance List.
