What are all these events in my calendar?

Instructor led classes send calendar events to your email, find out how to manage those.

The invitation is a courtesy making it easy to see in your calendar; your RSVP response does not disrupt the enrollment. Deleting the calendar event does not unenroll you or let the instructor know you're not coming; you'll need to go into the system if you want to unenroll or move to a different session.

In most cases, the calendar invitation is for a discreet amount of time when you will be in the class (ie. 9am-2:30pm) on a given day. In some situations, a course may be configured to span a longer amount of time to represent the ongoing course commitment.

If the time spans multiple days or even weeks, it may appear to take over the calendar in your Outlook, Google, or other calendaring applications.

What can you do about it?

You have options depending on how you use your calendar, but the most common are to:

  • Mark the calendar event "free" so it doesn't interfere with availability in your free/busy calendar. You will still see the event and be reminded of the course commitment.
  • Delete the invite. This will remove it completely from your calendar but will not interfere with your enrollment in the course.

Keep in mind that since you are still enrolled, when updates happen to the course details it may resend and updated calendar invite, and you may need to repeat the steps above.

What if you tried to delete it and it won't go away?

While we don't support your calendar application, we're familiar with some of the ways these work, so here is some guidance.

Using Google calendar?

Right-click and delete the invite.

If it's still there, you may have a setting in your Google calendar for "Show declined events" preventing it from being deleted. To find this:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Then to View options.
  3. Look for "Show declined events"

Uncheck that setting if you want events to be permanently removed from your view.

If it's still there, you may have a setting in your Outlook calendar for "Save declined events" preventing it from being deleted. To find this:

  1. Go to Settings from the gear icon.
  2. Then to Calendar settings.
  3. Select Events and Invitations.

Uncheck that setting if you want events to be permanently removed from your view when you decline.
